Nails Through Coin

This is a good trick for children. A borrowed coin is placed in a closed box. Five nails (in plastic) are pushed through the box and penetrate the coin. The junior magcien then removes the nails and opens the box. The coin is still there.. How is it possible that the nails went right through the coin ?
